Smithville Park, Eastampton

Talk about a really great park right in the heart of South Jersey...

Smithville Park in Eastampton, Burlington County, offers something for everybody. This park sits on 280 beautiful acres and has everything from a lake for fishing, a trail for hiking/walking, benches and barbecue stands for picnics, a playground for the kids and more. And one thing that it does NOT have, which I actually think is a good thing, is playing fields.

Don't get me wrong, I love to play basketball or softball or just throw a football on a field, and I certainly think it's great for kids to be able to play team sports, but it's nice to be away from that atmosphere where hundreds of people pile in at a time and take over, clogging up the parking lots, making noise, generating trash, and so on. Smithville Park provides a nice refuge from that madness.

Located just a few blocks from the Wal-Mart on Route 38 in Lumberton, the park is expansive enough that you could spend a few hours there and only see smatterings of people. The trails are well kept, the playground is clean and safe, and there's even a 600 foot long floating boardwalk across Smithville Lake. Though the lake was rather green with algae and well covered with lily pads, it was a scenic view nonetheless and I managed to spot a great blue heron.

Great place to jog, walk, or have fun with the kids.
