Palace Diner, Berlin

Among the many standby diners in South Jersey, Palace Diner is among the more well-known. This diner is located across from the Home Depot on one side and McDonald's on the other side off of Route 73 in Berlin. It's a decorative, shiny diner on the outside, and your basic diner on the inside with tables, booths, a bar, mirrored ceilings, and table-side jukeboxes which offer a variety of dated tunes for your wayward spare change.

The food, like that of most diners, is your standard fare... breakfast meals are probably your best bet at any hour, but still plenty of other options like burgers, chicken, and grilled cheese sandwiches for other times during the day. And like most diners, the food is very affordable as you can get a good sized meal for two people for under 20 or 25 bucks (even less for breakfast).

Some things to note: it's a hangout for post-partying locals on weekend late nights; the checks are tabulated by hand rather than by computer, so be sure to check your tab before paying; it's open 24 hours, so it's a great place to keep in mind for early, early morning stopovers; and my hunch is that it will become a bit busier in the summer as people stop by on their way to the Shore, now that Olga's at Route 70 and 73 is closing down (note that it's only 20 minutes from the A.C. Expressway and one of the last main stopovers before you get there).

If you'd like to ring Palace Diner's bell, go for it... (856) 767-5061.
