Fat Jack's BBQ, Cherry Hill

Out with the old, in with the new.

More specifically, out with Billy's Hen House, in with Fat Jack's BBQ.

For those of you familiar with Billy's Hen House, it's time to get familiar with Fat Jack's BBQ. Billy's Hen House has moved out of its spot at the Liberty Bell Shopping Center (I think that's the right name), and Fat Jack's BBQ, a franchise operation, has slid right in at 2091 Rt. 70 East in Cherry Hill. Sorry Billy's... I'm guessing the tough economy did you in... hopefully Fat Jack's will be able to stick around for a while longer.

Having not made any significant design changes (other than decor), Fat Jack's has an identical layout as Billy's, whereby diners order at the register in the rear of the storefront, and then food is brought to your table, or you go up and retrieve it on your own. Though I have no problem with this system, it's not exactly obvious when you first walk in... do I sit down and get served by a waiter/waitress... or do I go up to the counter? (Go to the counter young man.)

Fat Jack's kept use of the TV's-- two flat screens and one large projection-- and run sports programs when available. The food, all of it Southern barbecue style, is good and tasty, and the set up is no frills... plastic utensls, paper plates and cups, getcha own soda... kinda like a BBQ picnic. All of the servers were helpful and friendly and I don't think anybody left hungry. Beware vegetarians as I didn't really notice much in the way of meatless dishes, other than salads. Otherwise, Fat Jack's menu is quite extensive, offering ribs, chicken, burgers, pork, and all that jazz. And the BBQ sauce does indeed hit the spot.

Many people came streaming thru restaurant to pick up food, so if that plan tickles your taste buds, give them a call at 856-751-4227. There are also Fat Jack's BBQ locations in the following South Jersey:

Blackwood, Washington Twp., Audubon

And coming soon to South Jersey and Pennsylvania:

Vineland, Sicklerville, Berlin, Cinnaminson, Huntingdon Valley (PA)

Looks like this franchise is "cookin with gas"...
