Buena Tavern, Buena

The Buena Tavern is located at 1256 E Harding Highway (Route 40) in Buena, just a block or two east of a "super" Wawa gas station/convenience store that was built in 2007. "The Tavern," as it's known by the locals, sits to the East of Route 54, though the Google map linked above may not reflect that precisely.

A bit of background... Buena, for those of you who may not be familiar with this small ruralish town, is pronounced "Byoo-nah" (as opposed to the Spanish pronunciation of "bway-nah") and is located just outside of Vineland, NJ in Atlantic County. You can find this restaurant almost equally distant from Philadelphia and Atlantic City, about 10 miles south of the Atlantic City Expressway.

Anyaway, the pink-exterior Buena Tavern is a throwback local meeting place that at one time held dances and at another time was a bowling alley. Now it exclusively serves food and drink, mostly Italian style. The food portions are quite large and filling at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere would not be mistaken as posh or pretentious, but would best be described as low key and certifiably home-grown. The low-lit bar is patronized by regulars and the dining area walls are predominantly filled with paintings of clowns, apparently a tribute to the founder of the Tavern.
